Ground Game

Who’s going to lead the @buffalobills backfield this season? Is Zack Moss ready to take on a bigger role in the offense?

3rd year RB & starter Devin Singletary averaged 4.5 yards per carry in 2020 but only carried the ball 156 times in 16 games. Maybe, OC Brian Daboll doesn’t feel that Singletary (5’7 203 lbs.) can physically handle 200 carries?

Zack Moss comes into his 2nd year after a rookie season in which Moss carried the ball 112 times in 13 games. Moss gained 481 yards & averaged 4.3 yards per carry. Zack is also a little bigger than Devin at 5’9 223lbs.

However, Singletary & Moss disappeared in the playoffs. The “Coordinator of the Year” Brian Daboll leaned heavily on Pro Bowl QB Josh Allen & made his RBs zero threat to a defense. In a combined 4 games Singletary (3) & Moss (1) rushed 23 times for 84 yards a 3.6 yard average.

Buffalo picked up RB Matt Brieda in the offseason. Brieda wasn’t the same player in Miami as he was in San Francisco so it’s probably Moss & Singletary’s backfield again this year.

Personally, I think Zack Moss has the ability to be a lead back. Moss is a tough runner with good speed. I love Devin Singletary & was disappointed in his lack of touches. He’s proven he can handle a bigger workload.

Buffalo has no. 1 WR Stefon Diggs in the pass game. QB Josh Allen gets better every year but it’s important to be able to control the clock in the playoffs. I’ll be interested to see if Daboll tries featuring Moss or Singletary a little more this season.

Allen was just rewarded with a six year extension & is entering the prime years of his career. If Buffalo can find a balance between running the offense through Allen while complimenting him with an above average running game there is no defense in the @nfl that will stop the Bills offense in 2021.
